There are over 40 races of different abilities and sizes wandering this
realm. You will hear many different languages being spoken on Continents as
each racial group has its own language.
The most common races are Human, Elf, Halfelf, Drow, Dwarf, Halfdwarf,
Hobbit, and Gnome.
The races available for player selection are: Human, Elf, Halfelf, Drow,
Dwarf, Halfdwarf, Hobbit, Aarakocra, Giant, Ogre, Halfogre, Minotaur, Vampire,
Werewolf, Faerie, Gnome, and Halfkobold.
Beware of the more arcane and mysterious races.
Human:
Humans are the most "neutral" of all races. They have normal
attribute levels yet are the most versatile in all the available professions.
Humans native language is Common.
Their strengths are:
* Other races view Humans neutrally and normally do not attack.
* Are equally good in all classes.
* Their stature does not make them an easy target to hit.
Elf:
Elves are leaner in stature than humans yet on the average just as strong. They
are more magical and dexterous than the average Human. With their smaller
frame, they are able to better dodge larger foes like Giants and Ogres.
Unfortunately, Elves are not so strong in bodily health; on the other hand,
their magical nature aids them in recovering from the rigors of spell-casting.
Due to ancient feuds and past dealings, Elves have strong animosity toward a
few races and they toward Elves. The Elf language is Elven, which is similar
enough to D'ro that they and the Drow usually understand what the other has
said, even if neither will admit it.
Elves have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
* Detect Hidden.
Halfelf:
Halfelves are crossbreeds of Humans and Elves. They have all the physical
attributes of Elves and have the bodily strength normally associated with
Humans. Their stature is equivalent with that of Humans. Unfortunately, having
Elven characteristics, certain races may impart their hatred for Elves upon
Halfelves. Halfelves speak the Elven language; they also can generally
understand D'ro, the language of the Drow.
Halfelves have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
Drow:
Drow are commonly known as "dark elves" because of their dark skinned
complexion and because of their evil nature. Their statures closely resemble
those of Elves and they gain bonuses and penalties for that. Normally evil in
nature, they developed strong animosity toward other races and other races
toward Drow. Drow are strongly tied to their deities and thus developed the
ability to obtain higher levels of wisdom. Drow have no need for registering.
They may PKill or be PKilled. They may psteal or be pstolen. Drow
speak the language D'ro which is similar enough to Elven that they and the
elves usually understand what the other has said, even if neither will admit
it.
Drow have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
* Detect Hidden.
Dwarf:
Dwarves are a race of hardy individuals known for their love of adventure and
great food. Dwarves still hold their racial dislikes and prefer to act on them
before anything else. Because of their squat stature, they gain certain size
bonuses in combat yet are not as dexterous. Dwarves do have better bodily
health than most civilized races due to racial development. Dwarves speak the
language Dwarven.
Dwarves have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
* Detect Hidden.
Halfdwarf:
Halfdwarves are crossbreeds of Humans and Dwarves. They have all the physical
attributes of Dwarves and have the stature normally associated with Humans.
Unfortunately having Dwarven characteristics, certain races may impart their
hatred for Dwarves upon Halfdwarves. Halfdwarves speak the Dwarven language.
Halfdwarves have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
Hobbit:
Hobbits are small fun loving creatures with a strong sense of family. Sometimes
there is an occasional black sheep with a strong desire for adventure. Hobbits
have small frames and are quite agile. Because of their size, they gain certain
advantages when fighting much larger foes but they are also picked upon by
these large gruesome beasts too. Hobbits speak the language Halfling.
Hobbits have certain natural abilities:
* Infravision.
* Detect Hidden.
Aarakocra:
The Aarakocra are a race of highly intelligent man like birds. The average
Aarakocra is about five feet tall with a wing span of twenty feet. On their
wings they have opposable thumbs that enable them to wield weapons. The
Aarakocra have hollow bones that aid them in flight but are very brittle. Aarakocra
have little to do with other races or even their neighboring tribes. Aarakocra
raid human farms for food, because of the fact they can not tell stray farm
animals and wild animals apart. Aarakocras speak the language Aarak.
Aarakocras have certain abilities available to them.
* Detect hidden
* Fly
Giant:
Giants are large hulking humanoids with an overactive ego. They love picking
upon those smaller than them. Not particularly bright nor agile, they rely more
upon brute force than anything else. Another one of their assets (besides their
great smell) is that their dense bodies heal up faster than most races. The
Giants language is called Gianten.
Giants have certain abilities available to them.
* Detect magic
Ogre:
Ogres are slightly less muscular than Giants with nothing to do but harass
creatures which are vertically challenged. Not particularly bright nor agile,
they rely more upon brute force than anything else. Another one of their assets
(besides their great smell) is that their dense bodies heal up faster than most
races. The Ogres language (if you can call it that) is Ogrel.
Halfogre:
Halfogres are a diluted version of the Ogre race and are about the same size.
They are not quite as strong or healthy as a full-blooded Ogre (although they
are still stronger and healthier than a Human). On the other hand, they are a
little smarter and less clumsy... which is not to say that they can outthink or
outmaneuver a Human! Because they are so strong and robust, they have an
advantage when healing wounds. Halfogres speak the language Ogrel.
Minotaur:
Minotaurs appear to be half Human and half bull (or cow as the case may be).
They tend to be very strong and dexterous. Minotaurs are a very seclusive and
protective. They are slightly less intelligent than most races, but are very
fierce warriors. On very rare occasions, a Minotaur will study magic, making it
a very hard foe to defeat. Minotaurs speak the language Moovian.
Minotaurs have certain abilities available to them.
* Detect hidden
Vampire:
Vampires are very sensitive to sunlight as it makes their blood boil. This
is why vampires hide in the dark and usually keep to themselves. Vampires are
also very troubled by being in water. Vampires can fly and also regenerate
hit points quicker than some other races. Of course since vampires are
undead, they are immune to poison. Vampires have no need for registering.
They may PKill or be PKilled. They may psteal or be pstolen. The language of
the undead, including vampires is Kogeil.
Vampires have certain abilities available to them.
* Fly
* Pass door
* Infravision
* Detect alignment
* Detect invis
* Detect hidden
* Detect magic
The vampire race is not available during one's first life at Continents.
Werewolf:
Werewolves are very sensitive to moonlight as it makes their blood freeze.
This is why Werewolves hide in the dark and usually keep away from direct
contact with humans, but they detect no difference in the taste of human
flesh and animal flesh. Werewolves regenerate hit points quicker than
some other races. Werewolves speak the language of the Undead, Korgeil.
Werewolves have no need for registering. They may PKill or be PKilled.
They may psteal or be pstolen.
Werewolves have certain abilities available to them.
* Infravision
* Detect alignment
* Detect invis
* Detect hidden
* Detect magic
The werewolf race is not available during one's first life at Continents.
Faerie:
Faeries are little creatures of the forest. They prefer flying and thus
regenerate movement more quickly than expected. Faeries speak the language
Faerish.
Faeries have certain abilities available to them.
* Fly
* Infravision
* Detect invis
* Detect hidden
Gnome:
Gnomes are small peaceloving creatures much like a mix of Dwarves and Hobbits.
Not relatives of either race, Gnomes do not carry the same number of negative
feelings toward other races. Having on average less strength than many other
races, they make up this deficiency through a higher than average wisdom, as
well as the ability to recover quickly from using magic. Also agile, Gnomes
regularly rival hobbits in the inter-racial Olympics. Gnomes speak the language
Gnomish.
Gnomes have certain natural abilities:

Halfkobold:
Halfkobolds are a mongrel version of the dog-like kobolds, and are about as
tall as a Gnome. They don't have much going for them except for their fantastic
agility -- they make terrific acrobats, as traveling sideshows have found out.
Halfkobolds tend to have weak bodies and are not very healthy, being prone to
any number of canine diseases. They are not very intellectual, spending most of
their time thinking about food, how to get food, and who will give them food.
Halfkobolds speak the language Underdark.
